Oscar Peterson – Night Train
Rachmaninov Piano Concerto II
Harry Potter II Soundtrack
Brad Mehldau – Elegiac Cycle
Keith Jarrett – Standards, Vol. 1
Bill Evans – Village Vanguard Sessions
Erroll Garner – Concert By the Sea
Stephen Sondheim – Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Original Broadway Soundtrack
An album of pictures and videos that I have created about the Great Jazz Pianists on Pinterest. So far, it includes everyone from Art Tatum to Keith Jarrett to Brad Mehldau, and others! I’m going to keep building it, so you should definitely check it out. It’s fun to look at.
Make no mistake, there is a basic truth to the cliché of the jazz musician who only plays for himself. If the playing moves the audience, that’s great, but it’s incidental, after the fact.
To construe that outlook as elitist is to miss the point completely. On the contrary, jazz improvisation offers up a deconstruction of the rift between musician and audience in a performance. The musician is less cut off, and can melt into being a fan as well: ‘You love Brahms? Me too. Here’s what I get from Brahms.’
Here’s a post all about facebook marketing for musicians and some of the mistakes I see people making regularly.
Here’s a post I wrote about some great CNY Jazz musicians.
I want to give a shout out to an amazing musician and performer, Elliot Dyson, who I’ve been checking out about once a year in Orlando, FL whenever I’m in town. Everyone could learn a thing or two from Elliot about how to make an audience feel very special. Check him out.
I’m almost ready to start raising funds for my first album. I can’t wait!!! It’s been so long since I’ve shared my work with my friends and followers and I have a great deal of new material to record.
